With November 2nd soon approaching, this time of year always brings back fond memories of performing in the St. James Cathedral Choir for their annual Feast of All Souls’ mass. All Souls’ Day is a solemn holy day, often overshadowed by the Halloween season, when the Catholic Church commemorates the dead. St. James Cathedral in Seattle, WA continues to offer a beautiful mass that really captures the essence of the day.
I’ve been honored to take part in the mass over the last 15 years I’ve been in the choir. It was wonderful to commemorate this holy day through music. This year, we will be singing the Mozart Requiem, which is always a crowd pleaser. As I’ve mentioned in previous blog posts, music has always been a passion of mine so I love being able to perform with this group for such a meaningful community event. The Requiem will feature the orchestra and soloists to provide a beautiful and moving experience.
This photo of me as King Nebuchadnezzar is from a previous St. James concert, Great Music for Great Cathedrals. Their music program is known throughout the nation, and even in other countries. The choir has sung at the Vatican on a trip to Italy. It was exciting to sing for Pope Benedict XVI! I always enjoy performing with the St. James Choir, and I’m looking forward to this year’s All Souls’ mass. Parking is free and the mass is open to the public. Feel free to join us!
